Williams Named Louisville CVB Head

Karen Williams has been named president and CEO of the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau by its board after acting as its interim head since January. Williams took over the bureau on the interim basis after the sudden resignation of Jim Wood, president and CEO for 11 years.

Although she had retired in 2012, Williams spent 23 years with the Louisville CVB in a number of roles, most recently as executive vice president.

Between her 2012 retirement and accepting the interim position in January, Williams had worked as a consultant with her own destination marketing company, Inspired.

“The hospitality industry is an extremely competitive market for lucrative conventions and meetings business,” says Louisville CVB Board Chair Michael Howerton. “We believe we have found in Karen the right combination of experience, leadership and vision to help our community maximize those opportunities.”

Williams worked in the hospitality industry for eight years before moving to the Louisville bureau in the late 1980s, beginning as a sales manager at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Atlanta. She has served on boards of Meeting Professionals International and Destination Marketing Association International.
