Daniel McKinnon, vice president of events at TradeFair Group, sat down with Expo to discuss some of the macro trends that have affected the industry in recent years. There have been big changes, but events are still healthy as a whole, he believes.
"One of the big challenges has been a lack of commitment and participation from most of the attendee segments," McKinnon says. "Instead of getting four people from company A, we're getting two people from company A, and they're registering at the last minute which throws all of our forecasting off and makes it difficult."
"But being a veteran of this industry, I've gotten used to saying, 'It's all about quality, not quantity,'" he adds. "Well, now we're trying to demonstrate to the exhibitors that that's actually the case. When you do have quality attendees and when you do have appropriate messaging, that [you] can be successful."
