UBM Live Signs GES to 30 European Shows
The two-year agreement between the companies began last month and involves shows in six countries and 17 venues.
Among the events GES will handle for UBM Live are CPHl Worldwide, a major pharmaceutical show planned for October in Frankfurt, Germany; MEDTEC Europe, later this month in Stuttgart, Germany; and Ecobuild, scheduled for London in March.
“GES has a proven track record in serving UBM Live shows and our exhibitors,” says UBM Live CEO Simon Foster.
Jason Popp, GES executive vice president for international, says, “We look forward to working in partnership with UBM Live to ensure exhibitors get the best attention and service no matter where they exhibit in the world.”
The contract with UBM Live is good news for GES, following on the heels of the announcement that it had lost International CES to Freeman after nearly two decades of providing contracting services for what is, in most years, the largest show held in the United States.
At the same time, GES continues to provide services for a number of large shows around the world including the International Woodworking Fair, CONEXPO-CON/AGG and Spring Fair Birmingham.
Also earlier in the week, GES’ corporate parent Viad announced that the service contractor increased revenue 7.2 percent in 2012 to $677 million and that operating income totaled $5.6 million, up from a loss of $6.3 million in 2011. Same-show revenue increased 6.5 percent to $281 million over that time, as well.
“2012 was a very positive year for GES,” says Paul Dykstra, Viad chairman, president and CEO, in a statement.
