San Jose Modifies Convention Labor Policy

According to a statement released today by Team San Jose, service contractors at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center can now work directly with local labor due to an interim operations plan that modifies the labor exclusive that Team San Jose announced in July.

According to the statement, the plan will address the "immediate concerns of decorators as long-term discussions continue."

The at-issue exclusive, which made Teamsters Local 287 the exclusive labor provider for the center, caused a firestorm in the industry when it was announced in July. The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) took a public stance against the policy, arguing, among other things, that the exclusive violated the three largest general services contractors' existing collective bargaining agreements with Teamsters Local 85.
