Reed Continues Expansion Into Mexico

Reed Exhibitions has acquired two events in Mexico, continuing its recent expansion into the country and adding to a growing portfolio in Latin America.

The Expo Beauty Show and the Expo Lighting America Show, both based at Centro Banamex in Mexico City, bring about 300 exhibitors, 70,000 attendees and 65,000 net square feet of exhibit space to Reed’s portfolio. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

The moves follow last year’s purchase of Expo Ferretera and the 2011 acquisition of Expo Seguridad, giving the company a total of six events in Mexico now.

Each of the buys have come in different vertical markets in Mexico—beauty, lighting, hardware and security—but have synergies with Reed’s positions in the U.S.

“Mexico is a vibrant market and a strategic focus for Reed Exhibitions. These two events add scale and capabilities in support of our growing business platform in Mexico,” says Nancy Walsh, executive vice president for Reed Exhibitions, North America, in a statement. “But just as important, it is our desire to increasingly open an international window for our customers. Reed Exhibitions’ scale as the world’s leading event organizer allows us to deliver resources, opportunities and new relationships in an unprecedented way.”

In addition to the shows in Mexico, Reed also owns 34 shows in Brazil and one in Puerto Rico, giving it a substantial portfolio in Latin America.

Reed says it will retain the staffs of the two new events and will continue to receive “oversight and guidance” from the previous owners.
