Nielsen Acquires Tailgating Show
Nielsen Exhibitions has acquired the six-year-old Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show from Showproco, a company formed by Stan Schwartz and Hardy Katz, who ran the now-defunct but once highly successful The Super Show.
The deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, closed Jan. 2. The show, which targets sports licensing and tailgating products and services, is scheduled Jan. 17-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Last year’s edition, held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, had 589 exhibiting companies and 5,748 registered attendees. Even before the acquisition, Showproco planned to move the show to the Las Vegas Convention Center to accommodate a larger showfloor.
“The numbers tell us these are two healthy industries,” says Marti Soroka, director of buyer relations for Showproco, referring to sports licensing and tailgating.
“We have a significant amount of licensing activity already taking place at our shows,” says Nielsen Senior Vice President Darrell Denny, “and we are eager to present this opportunity to our manufacturing, distribution and retail clients.”
