Marketplace Events has acquired three home shows in the Kansas City area, plans to buy a fourth in 2016 and announced its most recent launch in Birmingham, Ala.
The Kansas City shows are being acquired from Pat Riha Productions. They are the Kansas City Remodeling Show, Metropolitan Lawn and Garden Show (both scheduled for early February at the American Royal Center in Kansas City, Mo.) and the Johnson County Home & Garden Show (set for late February at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kan.). Pat Riha and his wife Kate will consult on management of the shows through their runs in 2014.
Then, no later than 2016, Marketplace Events will purchase the company’s Holiday Boutique, held annually at the Overland Park venue.
The acquisition represents Marketplace’s entry to the Kansas City area, which CEO Tom Baugh says in a statement the company has been interested in expanding into.
“These shows are an excellent growth platform,” Baugh says, “and we look forward to taking them to the next level.”
Marketplace also announced it will launch a new fall edition of the Birmingham Home + Garden Show, now scheduled Feb 13-16 at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. The fall edition of the show will take place Sept. 20-22.
That takes Marketplace’s portfolio to 34 consumer shows and a trade-consumer hybrid show, AIMExpo, it will launch in October in Orlando for the motorcycle and powersports industry.
In March, Marketplace Events announced another launch: a new home show, scheduled for late February at The International Centre in Toronto. It will be the company’s third annual show in the Toronto area. It also launched the Great Big Texas Home Show Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Convention Center in March.
