Industry Icon Bob Dallmeyer Dies
Bob Dallmeyer, well known to many in the trade show industry for almost 50 years, died yesterday at his home in Los Angeles after a brief, two-month struggle with throat cancer.
Dallmeyer, as president of RD International for almost 30 years, has worked in numerous capacities both in the American trade show industry and throughout the world.
He was inducted into the Convention Industry Council’s Hall of Leaders in 2006 and won the International Association of Exhibitions and Events’ (IAEE) Pinnacle Award in 2008. Dallmeyer was the only person to serve as both chairman of IAEE and the Trade Show Exhibitors Association.
Dallmeyer had served on the board of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research and the International Center for Exhibitor and Event Marketing.
He was an instructor in IAEE’s Certificate in Exhibition Management program and conducted training all over the world on behalf of the trade show industry.
“Many years ago, when I first started working in the trade show industry press, Bob was the one of the first people to be nice to me and introduce me around,” says Expo Executive Editor Michael Hart. “I’ll never forget how kind he was to me then and throughout all the years that have followed.”
Dallmeyer began his career with United Technologies where he directed all of its trade show activities, which involved more than 200 exhibitions, including air shows in Paris; Farnborough, U.K.; Tokyo; and Hanover, Germany.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
