The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society is extending its successful and fast-growing HIMSS brand into Latin America.
It will launch the HIMSS Latin America 2014 Conference and Exhibition Sept. 18-19 at the World Trade Center in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Over the last several years, HIMSS, the trade association for the health care IT sector, has ridden changes in the health care sector—including the proliferation of information technology—to create one of the largest, fastest-growing trade shows in the United States.
HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition, which will take place Feb. 23-27 in Orlando, routinely has a showfloor that takes up more than 600,000 net square feet and draws as many as 25,000 attendees.
While HIMSS held a conference in Madrid in November, this will be one of the first exhibitions to take place outside the United States.
The association will launch the event in collaboration with the Association of Brazilian Healthcare CIOs (ABCIS).
“It is a first for Brazil to draw upon the best international standards and best practices to drive changes in Brazil’s health care delivery systems,” says David Oliveira, president of ABCIS.
HIMSS President and CEO Stephen Lieber says the growing health care industry in Latin America makes it a prime target for expansion.
“We note the increasing activity in deployment and interoperability,” Lieber says. “With over 15,000 hospitals in Latin America, HIMSS feels that the size and advancement of the market makes for a very timely launch.”
