Global Gaming Expo Announces Venue and Calendar Changes

The American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions says shift more evenly spaces event series.

The American Gaming Association, along with Reed Exhibitions, announced today that after this year’s show the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) will take place a month earlier and at a difference venue. The 2011 event is scheduled for October 4 to 6 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

This year’s event will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center November 15 to 18. The show has been held at the Convention Center since it launched a decade ago.

“Adjusting the events calendar enables gaming operators to plan for the coming year with greater and ultimately will improve sales for G2E exhibitors,” AGA president and CEO Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr., said during a media briefing Tuesday at The Venetian Las Vegas. “The move allows us to creatively enhance the show during the coming decade. It provides us with more conference space and gives our attendees the convenience of having rooms, dining and entertainment options all under the same roof as the show.”

Fahrenkopf said the date change also puts an extra month between G2E and another major gaming event that takes place each year in London in December. He said G2E will continue to take place in early October except when it conflicts with the Jewish holidays.

In addition, the AGA is changing the dates of the G2E event in Asia May 22 to 24 starting in 2012 (it is scheduled for from June 8 to 9 in 2011). It will continue to be held at the convention facilities at The Venetian Macau. A G2E-related event in South America will shift to mid-November and take place in Buenos Aires.

“Together, these changes amount to a more evenly-spaced series of events across the year that accommodates the needs of our gaming industry partners around the globe,” Fahrenkopf said.

According to Courtney Muller, senior vice president at Reed Exhibitions, the date changes were brought on by feedback from attendees and sponsors, especially those who participate in multiple gaming shows during the year. She said G2E “continues to be one of the best performing shows in Reed’s global calendar.”

“The tradeshow helps us more effectively address changing consumer needs, demands and preferences. It also helps us to build new customers—something we all want to do in this business,” said Las Vegas Sands Corp. president and COO Michael Leven. “G2E is also important to the city of Las Vegas. It attracts thousands of visitors from around the world and provides a substantial boost to the local economy.”
