Creative Crafts Group Buys MS Productions

Deal adds nine consumer events to the company's sewing and quilting division.

Creative Crafts Group, a portfolio company within New Track Media, announced it has closed its acquisition of MS Productions, a Westlake, Ohio-based company that organizes nine consumer shows in the quilting and sewing markets.

Creative Crafts Group has an existing events group, but did not have consumer shows in the sewing and quilting space. The addition of the 16-year-old MS Productions, which organizes the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo and The Georgia Quilt Show, gives the company an instant live event component to match up with its print and digital media brands in those markets.

"We had no events other than a periodic symposium or retreat, and nothing like a larger consumer show," says Tina Battock, senior vice president of Creative Crafts Group. "We have a pretty robust media portfolio in sewing and quilting and this is a nice add-on to support the category there."

Sale price and revenues were not disclosed and Battock declined to offer any further detail.

Currently, Creative Crafts group has 16 conventions and 4 boutique shows in the scrapbooking category.

The nine MS Productions events, which travel to destinations throughout the Midwest and East Coast, together attracted about 60,000 total consumers in 2011. The events average 80,000 square feet in exhibit, meeting and class space.

Going forward, Battock says they plan on adding at least two events in 2012 with the idea of expanding the brands westward.

Owner-operators Marlene and Mark Ingraham will continue to run the shows under Creative Crafts Group and offers of employment have been extended to all MS Productions employees. The group will continue to operate out of its Westlake offices.
