BookCon: ReedPOP’s Newest Venture
ReedPOP, the self-styled “quirky offshoot” of Reed Exhibitions, is branching out from comics and getting into books.
In collaboration with BookExpo America, a trade show and conference for the book sales industry also run by Reed Exhibitions, ReedPOP is launching a consumer event. BookCon, to be held May 31 at the Javits Center in New York, will take place on the last day of BookExpo (May 28-31).
“We want to bottle some of that energy from Comic Con and use it for the book world,” says Lance Fensterman, global senior vice president for ReedPOP and a former show manager of BookExpo.
ReedPOP’s portfolio of 15 comic con and other enthusiast community events draw more than 400,000 attendees and 2,000 exhibitors globally each year.
Fensterman says they’re aiming for 10,000 attendees at the inaugural BookCon.
With the launch, ReedPOP and BookExpo become the latest to add a consumer element to a trade show in an attempt to foster direct-to-consumer relationships for manufacturers and wholesalers.
