Another Acquisition for Marketplace Events
Marketplace Events continued its rapid expansion late last week as it announced the acquisition of the Renovation Show from Young Marketing Services. Terms weren’t disclosed.
Held in late January at the Expo Centre at Northlands Agricom in Edmonton, it’s the second Marketplace Events show in that market and the company’s 11th in Canada (it also has 27 in the U.S.). The Renovation Show lists about 150 exhibitors for 2014 event, but doesn’t provide attendance or square footage numbers.
“Our shows in Western Canada have been the fastest growing in our portfolio in recent years, and thus we have been extremely aggressive about expansion in this region,” says Tom Baugh, CEO of Marketplace Events, in a statement. “Edmonton is a fantastic consumer show market and we couldn’t be happier about producing a second quality show at Northlands.”

The acquisition follows a slew of activity for Marketplace Events in recent months. It purchased two home shows in Raleigh, N.C., three in Kansas City, Mo., and has launched (or announced the launch of) three others across the U.S. since August.
The Renovation Show is part of its core home show segment, but, looking to diversify, Marketplace Events has ventured into other fields as well. One of those projects never got off the ground, but the company seems to have found a successful niche in the motorsports trade show market.
