Tip of the Week: Provide access for all attendees

Consider the individual needs of the many people who will come through your next show and plan ahead for any necessary accommodations. Do you have sign language interpreters available? Should you translate your program into foreign languages or make it accessible for the visually impaired? “We have a mandate — a responsibility — to provide the best accessible environment and the best accessible materials across multiple disabilities for the people at our conference,” says ATIA Executive Director David Dikter. “We want their experience to be as meaningful as anyone else’s. It’s part of making sure that the environment is as much the same for everybody as it can be. Equality is the best way to put it.” To learn more about attendee accessibility, read Best Practices: Providing equal access in the January 2007 issue of EXPO.
