November/December 1990 Quick Tips: Promotion Idea
by Scott Gray
- Sponsor special days for cooperative fraternal organizations.
- In cities with large foreign language speaking populations, run newspaper ads in the appropriate language.
- Sponsor a citywide contest related to the exposition. For example, a home and garden show might sponsor a contest for the best landscaped yard.
- Have a display area for an "ultimate" -- the ultimate bathroom, the ultimate fisherman, the ultimate home workshop.
- Arrange for show "leftovers" to be donated to local organizations: food, plants, etc.
- Get businesses near the convention center involved in promotions. For example, a two-for-one dinner at an area restaurant with a ticket stub from the show.
- Have banners made to hang on the freight trucks parked in the streets and parking lots.
- Offer the local Red Cross or Visiting Nurse Association lobby space for a health fair during the show.
- Send special discount passes to local youth groups (free admission for them if they bring an adult). Send a gift or a small donation to the group's adult leader as an incentive to distribute the passes.
- and out flyers and discount coupons at high school, college or professional sporting events.
- Print promotional table tents for restaurants and bars.
